Pig Pen Jr's EB D44 rebuild...

This isn't going in the Explorer, but rather the BII come fall/winter.

Give me some pointers on a EB D44 rebuild. I got input from some guys already, but am looking for as much info and advise as possible. Here is what I got so far...

Gotta have a little BLING...

The axle is coming with a set of radius arms and a set of used knuckles off of a 79 bronco. I'm not worried about the actual mounting right now, but here is what I am using once I get that far.

Probably going to go with a set of Wild Horse coils and Rancho 5000s.

if its getting a sploder 8.8 why not just use that instead of a 9" the 8.8 is basically the same width as the EB d44 and basically just as strong, i dont see the point of spending more money if not having too

9" are easy to come by and I can build one up alot srtonger than an 8.8.

Not only that, but the X 8.8 is 5 on 4.5 and will need either spacers or new shafts to convert it to 5 on 5.5.

Yup, and I don't feel like running two spares on two differant rims either. That is why the project will be awhile before it is done. After the D44 gets rebuilt, then the 9" will get rebuilt, then they will both get tires and rims and finaly they will be installed. I am figuring $1000 per axle and then $1000 in rims and tires. The actual install will be probably around $500 all said and done. The figures are probably high, but I would rather have cash left over than run out.
I am aiming to have this all complete by July '07 so I can make the RRORC Chubfest run with the new setup.

Yup, slow and easy. This way I learn how to do everything myself and I can build the axles the way I want them.
This is the reason I didn't buy gears for the D35/88 (they have stock 3.73s with L/S) and I'm not worried about the drums on the 8.8. I only have two runs planned between now and the '07 run, so the D35 and 8.8 will still be in good shape and I will be able to sell them, the Skyjacker stage I lift and custom rad arms and make some cash back for the new axles/tires. ;)
I've seen too many guys get the bug and rush to do everything. They end up with a setup they really didn't want and or bills they can't afford. :(
