Looking good!!!

Serious question, are you willing to line up at the strip for fun???

Wow, you've come a long way Thomas. Lookin' good.

Ooooooo!

Seriously, but for fun; are you gunna take that from him TekMan?

Run um while your still in the break in stage, the tune ain't right and the gasket maker is still wet. Show um whats up!

:D

I know this isn't the NBA, but..... I LOVE THIS GAME!

**** talk never gets old!

:D

Seriously though....the track would be a perfect place for the break in and data logging...I'm sure it would be a lot of fun...

I wish we could have met up before the build to have a before/after comparison video. I have no doubt I'll be seeing tail lights:)

Keep up the good work Thomas and I can't wait to hear how it sounds!!!

Hey guys, yes I do plan to run her once she's all settled in and the bugs are worked out of her. I never visit the track in the summer anyways(too hot) so she should be running good by the fall. I did get some not so great news. I guess apparently my seated 1.8 beehive springs are too tall and they don't feel comfortable cutting the head anymore to make them fit properly. So now I gotta get in contact with Ed again to see if I can exchange them for 1.7 seated springs. Very frustrating as this delays this even further and with my friend switching shifts at work we'll have little time to work on it. Granted knowing him he'd probably work on it when I'm not home but I honestly want to be involved so I can learn some things for myself.
Granted, at this point with the block back into the truck alot of things are going to be just bolting things back together, getting the valve train set and filling fluids. Alot of the super scarey stuff is behind us now. At least at the moment it looks that way :D. I'm staying patient with this because I understand this is the nature of this kind of gig. Lots of unexpected setbacks, fortunately I have a good backup car to drive in the meantime and it's not winter. It's all going to pay off in the end.
I tell you I'm just as excited as you guys to hear her fire and idle the first time. Nothing quite like that sound of a camming 302 engine. Oh and Limited02 I couldn't remember your lowest time last time we were at KCIR but I thought you were pushing lower 15's? I don't know with my AWD setup I'm going to past that. If I did I would have FAR exceeded what I was expecting to get of this engine. My original intentions was never to even take this engine this far from stock, so if I crack 15.9 at the track I'll be happy with that considering my best before that was a 16.3

I ran a 15.1 in the 1/4 and I too am 4x4. Only mods were a tune/exhaust, 20's and the 2nd/3rd row seats removed. Your Mustang gave me a bad spanking though.....:notworthy

You stayed with a 302 right? No stroker setup? The only 2nd gen 5.0 I've ran was techieman33 and we were neck and neck. You have the advantage over Eric with a cam, worked heads with supporting valve-train to rev a little more and decent stall.

I predict 14.9 @90mph for your Explorer...

Yes, the bottom end just got new rings and bearings that's all. I could of honestly left it untouched that's how good of shape the originals were when we cracked it opened. Of course though you always wanna replace stuff like that with any engine build no matter what. We shall see, Ed replied with an email to ask about what they were installing the springs at because the recommended springs my machinist suggested http://www.compperformancegroupstor..._Code=CC&Product_Code=26995-16&Category_Code=
has a lower max lift of .500'' and I may run into coil bind. I trust Ed that he supplied the right parts and just wonder if my shop is being more apprehensive.

Edit--Waiting to hear from Ed. My machinist is needing a 1.7'' spring I guess the 1.8 is too large so I'm going to have to do an exchange. More downtime alright lol !! :thumbdwn: It's all good, I'm staying patient while thinking of the end results. Valve train is critical and is where some of my new power is coming from so it's important that everything works well there for me.

There are many who are waiting for your updates my friend.

Well guess I'm still waiting as well. For the dang heads still. I'm waiting on Ed to get back in contact with me about some different spring locks because the shop is saying that my springs are too tall and want me to do an exhange. I haven't picked them up yet because I told Ed at Flowtech about that and he doesn't understand what the issue is. Although he did say that once he gets another set of the same PAC racing beehive springs he'll inspect them to see if the other spring locks will work and if they do will send them off to have my shop try to get them to work. Needless to say if it weren't for that I'm sure she'd been back on the road by now. And for some reason as well my computer's USB ports aren't detecting anything when I plug the camera or anything else in. So It's gonna be a minute before I get some pics. Be patient guys it'll eventually get done. How do ya think I'm feeling right now, I'm suffering separation anxiety without my truck . I'll update once some progress is made

Edit-- Anyone know some good valve cover gromment plugs? I need one for the new (Pass) side cover because I've read the breather filters aren't the best for our EFI trucks? Not to mention the bulkiness of them

Finally got my intake back. Shipped off the springs and retainers. Once I get those back I can pick the heads up.

Looks good! I see some minor port work on the top side there. Do you have a picture of the bottom side of the runners?

Here's the bottom side

Hi Guys!

I'm a new member!

I've read over this post a lot trying to learn what is the best way to mod my daily driver for more power.

I'm trying to understand what the purpose of porting the intake is if it's already matched from the factory? Did the 5.0l v8 come mismatched they way they came?

I've been reading a lot of posts on this forum over the last 2 years but keep getting more confused.

Even though I'm an older gentleman (excuse my fart :) ) with a little car knowledge, pre-1970, I'm not understanding why you guys are porting and mow much power is being made?

Mike

The basic theory is to allow more air to flow through the engine. If more air will flow, then more fuel can be added.
