Ok, my Sport Trac is white with all the black accents. I was thinking of plasti dipping the wheel spokes on my stock wheels black. Didn't really want black wheels, but the center black. Has anyone done this, and by chance have any photos of this being done.? Thanks,

I did plastidip my wheels a couple of years ago , looked great for a Little while was a pain to maintain and then remove

Yes. I've seen it done where guys do the whole wheel. But, I've never seen anyone mask off the outer rim and just do the spokes and center portion on the wheel in plasti dip.

User here GSU4X4 did this and I think it turned out great.

Here are some pics from his thread:

He has an ongoing build & fix thread here:

I did my winter (stock) rims gunmetal plastidip, it looks more blue grey than gunmetal but it works. Don't know about reliability as the pile of junk has been in the garage for the last month with the engine pulled waiting for parts.

Well, here's my first post...
with plastidip, first coat is light, I always do 2 coats light, then heavy coats after that.

My Srt Caliber has had dipped wheels for 80,000 plus miles with no maintenance other then the car washes.

Remember, the more coats you put on, the easier it's going to be to take it off when you want to change it. But, you want a different color, just spray over it.

Probably good advice to follow. There are some impressive youtube videos out there that I found AFTER I did my grill and it seems that it is all about putting enough on! Hopefully I did!

Well, I pulled the trigger on a bull bar, and wound up plasti dipping my front grill. I like it so much better. Now, if I can figure out how to load photos,

Thanks Trac_Marks for posting up my pics...
Blacksheep60, it was a PAIN to plasti-dip the parts on my truck that have edges (fender flares, bumpers, wheels). It was difficult because to create a clean edge I had to tape or paper off the parts I didn't want to spray, then when I sprayed the plasti-dip it created a "skin" that connected the tape and part I wanted to spray. So I had to use a razor blade to create a clean edge and separate the tape and parts, which took FOREVER! All in all the tape is holding up well on my wheels, no peeling yet and I love the way it looks.

Yeah, GSU, from what I understand when you mask something you have to pull the masking off right after you spray. Otherwise it will skin over like what happened to you. When I did my grill , I masked it off but was also able to peel the over spray off pretty easily. I think the trick is to spray until you get a very thick coat so it is easier to peel off. Once I figure. Out how to post photos m I will post some here of my grill.

I'll be back after the 3rd, feel free to ask away about dip

Looking at this is making me think about my wheels too. Those black accents look really nice.

The rule is to always pull off your masking before paint is dry. I just didn't think about it. I had to use the razor blade also. :)
