Whoa! Hold your horsies... :) A 4" lift is going to look kinda silly with 31's. You would be better off just getting some 31's and making them fit with the stock system. Then once you save up the rest of your pennies go ahead and buy the gears, and bigger tires 33's and put your 4" lift on.

Ryans, correct on that. You would look kind of funny with that much lift and no meat on them wheels. 31's should just fit with a little trimming if any on a stock truck. 31's will also be just fine on stock wheels.

i wouldnt really say that.. considering most people on the board run 33's with 5.5 inches of lift.

and he may even need to trim a little fender to fit 33's with 4 inches of lift.

why not get a 2 inch skyjacker kit, its cheap, easy and will look phat with 31's

with my 94xlt, there was no way i was going to fit 31s stock. then with the 4" trailmaster, i fit them nicely. sure, it looked a little wierd, but NO RUBBING, even at full tuck.
When I went to the 33s...forget it. 6"s and still rubbing up front.

I don't know why so many people rub so much. When I rubbed I fixed it with trimming. If your gonna run bigger tires you have to trim. Even though my lift came as a 5.5" lift I would guess that it has settled down to 4-5". If you plan on off-roading my advice would be to lift as little as possible and trim as much needed to run the biggest tire you want. Or get the Perry fab and fiber fender flares and you could run 33's without a lift in the front.

Exactly my line of thinking Ryan. Although, with no lift and 33's under the fiberglass fenders you may still rub on the radius arm at full lock. You could do the James Duff 2.5" stage II lift and run 33's under fiberglass, that may alleviate the radius arm rub issue. Or you could do the fenders and the 4" lift and run 35's - be Colin's twin. lol

iceman-
this is a 4" Trail Master with 35s

No that would probably look pretty funny with 31s don't ya think?
I don't know about all this rubbing either. When I first lifted my X with 33s and no fenders or anything, it didn't rub anywhere. And like Ray said, 31s will fit fine on the stock wheels. Good luck with it.

I dont think it could look that bad. I run a 5.5" suspension with a 3" body lift. Running only 32's. You can find several pics on the link in my sig. Sure I want 33's or 35's but I also would like have all the money in the world. Something that right now I do not have. It looks ok. Just a little different than the full tire in the wheelwell look.

thankyou for all your help i know realize that a 4in lift with 31s would look ridiculous so i have decided on the 2in lift thankyou for your help

i still say 31's would look fine. look at SCEXPLORER pics.

fender guy looks normal with 35's because hes FENDER GUY.

he has fiberglass front fenders (thats why he can fit 35's)
and the rear fenders im sure hes done A LOT of chopping.

BoatsRcool-
The fenders definitely help with any rubbing that would normally happen on the fender, but I still have the firewall to worry about. I didn't have the fenders on when I had 33s and it didn't rub anywhere with the 4" lift. It all depends on the truck. I've seen some that rub with 33s on 5.5" of lift and some that don't. I don't have extended radius arms either so it doesn't rub when I turn at all either.

Fender, what gear ration are you running with those 35's I want 35's bad may run 33's then regear to 4.56 and then go 35. It sucjks not having all the money in the world and I think I would be on crack to try to turn 35's with 3.73

pushing 33s with 3.73 is possible but it is a stretch....i think 35s would be darn near impossible unless you wanted to go 140 mph top speed and have a 1 minute 1/4 mile :)

i have decided on the 2in lift

iceman,
that plan sounds good. dont go overboard at first. get to know your truck very well, then who knows in a few years you jack it up and build a really unique offroad machine. your 16 now so figure on 2 years you might be ready to get soem new wheels, tires, lift and you probably will have already added a bunch of other mods then you will have learned your truck inside out.

congrat on the x! welcome to teh site!

Dannyboy-
I have 4,56s. I had my 33s with 3.73s for about 9 months then finally got the 4.56. It went alright, but it's much better with the new gears. I knew I was going to get 35s everntually, that's why I got them. I wouldn't want to do gears twice. I too am on limited funds my friend. This has been a 2 year project. I even sold my 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 so I could afford the gears and lockers. I really don't have that much money into my truck compared to some other people on this site, and I make it everywhere they do so...

Colin, I will agree with you 100%. You also have that knack for great driving skills on the trails. That's evident by who had the least body damage from the Rubicon trip last month.
