Was talking to one of my co workers today and he has a GMC Truck and has a Pioneer double din and we were talking about wiring harness because I asked him to help me install my Pioneer Double din that I want to get for my Explorer. Well he mentioned that instead of buying the splice kit, he spent the extra money and bought a kit that was straight plug n play to where one end of the kit plugged into the factory harness and the other end plugged into the back of the Pioneer.

My question is that if anybody else has come across those online for our Explorers? He can't remember the brand and I have spent the past couple hours looking and nothing. Plus how much extra pain in the butt is it to wire in a after market double din with the factory JBL Sub?

Any stereo shop or amazon should be able to sell this item to you... About $20... Thats how I always do mine, just incase I want to go back to stock... I believe Metra is one of the biggest makers of those...

I got my adapter from walmart 20bucks Sorcshe makes it. It plugs into the factory then its all just taking the HU wiring harness and matching it up the colored wires.

Haven't had any luck recently finding it. Hope they are still making it.

My walmart still has it, its not made specifically for explorers. Just fords the list of vehicles it covers are on the back. Its in a clear rectangular package.

just get the splice kit. what 10 minuts of crimp caps or 15 min of soldering and tape. back in the day when circuit city was around we were the first first to get them. the downfall was is some vehicles the remote wires arent hooked up to the factory amp so you would have to re-do them anyways.

I guess I misread it the first time that you don't want to do any crimping... I've never even heard of a harness like that. All radio mfg's have different style plugs, just like car mfg's vary too... I've always had to add the plug kit to the wire harness that came with the stereo, and then then just plug in both ends and away you go...
