I'm putting in my order for a 2013 Explorer XLT soon and want the Power Liftgate and Remote Start. Is this possible? If so, will I have an extra remote for the starter or will it all be on one remote? I've been looking at 2012 and can't seem to find one with both. I seem to be able to add both when building my own on the website. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Have you considered custom ordering your 2013 so that it will have exactly the equipment you want?

VinceL- Yes I plan on ordering a 2013. But it looks like to me that the Remote Start won't even be an option. The dealer can't find it listed. And the website says to contact a dealer for accessories. So that's why I'm asking.

My dealership offered an aftermarket but like so many others I really don't want someone touching my new vehicle.

I have a 2012 Limited that has the Remote start and power-lift gate. It has a remote that controls starting, unlocking, locking, power lift gate open/close and panic button.

I see. I read what you posted before and misunderstood you. A quick call to the dealer may answer your question.

That's ok VinceL. I have talked to three different dealerships. They all say the same thing Remote Start is not an option on the MY2013 XLT. They all offered and after market. :( I wonder if I can get Cory to chime in?

From my understanding the Remote start is only available on the 2013 Explorer Limited and not an option on the XLT. Maybe spend a couple extra bucks and go after a Limited with the remote start and power lift gate?

:( Well that sucks. "A couple extra bucks" more like $3260 bucks. That's one heck of an expensive remote start.

And yes, I realize that $3260 also includes other extras, but those are things I really don't need. Oh well, I guess I don't "need" a remote start that bad either.

It's just disappointing. :(

Hey guys,

The remote start option can only be ordered with the Limited package. The power liftgate is optional on the XLT 201A & 202A packages and included with the Limited 301A and above packages.

Don’t worry though, because you can still have the remote start system added with an extra remote. Go to http://Accessories.Ford.com/vehicles/explorer/2013/electronics/remote-start.html for a list of the available Remote Start Systems on the 2013 Explorer.

Here are the details for the Remote Start System - 200 Series Plug-N-Play:

•Beat the heat and conquer the cold.
•Upon remote start-up, this incredibly smart system can sense outside temperature to activate the heated/cooled seats (if so equipped) and/or engage the A/C or heater (if equipped with dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control).
•It's fully integrated with the vehicle's driver information center, which means you control remote start run time, rear-window defrost and much more.
•The system enables you to start the engine from more than 3 football fields away (distance may vary depending on vehicle location and environment).
•To confirm your vehicle is running, the fob emits audible beeps and flashes the remote start button.
•The 200 Series also helps protect your valuables via an exclusive IT-s® 2-stage shock sensor.
•All this remote start genius is tied directly to your vehicle's electronic architecture through no-splice, no-cut technology.
• Includes 1 key fob.
•Dealer installation recommended.
•NOTE: Available only for vehicles with an automatic transmission and power door locks. Remote Start Hood Switch Kit (BT4Z-19G366-A) is required if your vehicle is not equipped with a factory-installed hood switch.

Do you suggest the 200 Series or the Bi-Directional?

Do you suggest the 200 Series or the Bi-Directional?
jw2013explorer,

I say the 200 Series because of the following:

“Upon remote start-up, this incredibly smart system can sense outside temperature to activate the heated/cooled seats (if so equipped) and/or engage the A/C or heater (if equipped with dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control).”

The Bi-Directional is a simple remote start.

Just had the remote start activated in my new 2013 Ford Explorer XLT. All 2013's come with the remote start already in them. You just have to by the remote starter kit and have it installaed. Installation kit consist of two remotes. The dealer just cuts the key and programs the remote start to wake up. Total cost was $343.00.

I just ordered an xlt yesterday with the power lift gate and will have the dealership install the Ford plug in play remote start kit when the vehicle arrives. Question is, will the new key fob that comes with remote start package have a button for the power lift gate?

Yes, make sure you get the keys with the 5 button (power liftgate) and not the 4 button (non-power liftgate).

Hi vtboy51,

Riley brings up a good point below. You can check out the Ford Accessories site to see the difference in the keys: http://accessories.ford.com/vehicles/explorer/2013/electronics/remote-start.html

Additionally, I'm happy to keep an eye on your Explorer's status for you. Send me a PM with your order number/dealer name and I'll give you weekly updates.

Yes, make sure you get the keys with the 5 button (power liftgate) and not the 4 button (non-power liftgate).

Great info, Riley!

Thanks,

Crystal

Riley,
Can you confirm the part number below is correct for use with 2013 explorer w/power lift gate (it looks like the only one with 5 buttons)

Remote Start System - 100 Series Plug-N-Play

Part No: DA8Z-19G364-A

That is the correct part number for the 5 button IKT's. The "kit" is merely 2 keys. Price should be around $180 to $220 depending on where you buy them from.

I am having the dealership install the part, does FORD spec a time for install of this part?

There's nothing really to install. It's all done through the dealers computer. Will probably charge an hours worth of labor though.
