Power Liftgate & Remote Start

Just had the remote start activated in my new 2013 Ford Explorer XLT. All 2013's come with the remote start already in them. You just have to by the remote starter kit and have it installaed. Installation kit consist of two remotes. The dealer just cuts the key and programs the remote start to wake up. Total cost was $343.00.

Hi guys I have a 2013 Explorer XLT with auto liftgate and want to add remote start with 5 button key, but getting some confusing info from the dealer.

Do guys know if Remote Start System - 100 Series Plug-N-Play Part No: DA8Z-19G364-A comes with two keys or just one.

Also dealer here in Houston is telling me is not as easy as a programming install. That they have to install hardware and wiring too.

Comes with two keys. Your dealer is mis-informed, no additional hardware or wiring is needed. PM me your email and I'll send you the Ford instructions so you can take it to the dealer.

Hi stsalinas,

It looks like Riley already helped you out, but I wanted to touch base with you and see how the install is going. I'm happy to get your case escalated to your regional customer service manager if you'd like; just send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name. I'll get to work!

Thanks for helping out, Riley! I'm sure stsalinas appreciates it!

Hood Switch

I am hopefully getting my XLT next week. Quick question. I want to add the 100 series starter. How do I know if I need the hood switch? They are quoting me $360 just to install. Of course it's NY but there is know way I am paying that. I am planning on getting a locksmith to cut the keys. I will program them myself and go to the dealer to turn it on. Will this work?
Thanks

Yes, this will work. Dealer should only charge for an hours worth of labor even though it takes about 10min to enable. Only Base model Explorers need the hood switch kit, all others already have it.

Thank you Riley and Crystal, after taking the instructions Riley sent me to the dealer, they were able to install without any problems. They only charged me an hours worth of labor but done in minutes. Thanks for all your help!

I picked up my explorer today. Its beautiful. I took my two keys there from 100 series starter. The dealer cut and programed the keys, but wouldn't connected it to the computer. Said I need an antenna? I even showed him the directions Riley provided me. (thanks again riley). What should I do? Try another dealer?

What are they going to connect the antenna to? I would find another dealer to do it.

Hi Riley - Sending you a PM here for some ford instructions..

Would I be able to purchase this kit and have it programmed to work with the vehicle? I realize the fob doing all the push button keyless stuff wouldn't work I mainly want the buttons on the FOB to work as my wife leaves her key in her vehicle.

It should work as the keyless modules are the same regardless of key type. Getting it programmed I'm unsure of as when you program new keys or keyless, the buttons also program after the key cycles you perform from the manual. If you do decide to try it out I would not buy from that seller, that's crazy expensive.

I'm putting in my order for a 2013 Explorer XLT soon and want the Power Liftgate and Remote Start. Is this possible? If so, will I have an extra remote for the starter or will it all be on one remote? I've been looking at 2012 and can't seem to find one with both. I seem to be able to add both when building my own on the website. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Just went thru this and hence my decision to bump up to a Limited with the 301A package.

On the XLT you can get the power liftgate from the factory. The remote start is not an option but sold as a ford accessory dealer installed item on the XLT's. You will get a second key fob just for the remote start.

The limiteds are the only ones you can get a factory remote start as an option all in one key fob.

Even the Ford Accessory remote start is available with the all-in-one keyfob. Uses the same IKT as the Flex and Taurus with factory installed remote start.

I ordered the 2014 Explorer Sport with the 401A Package and it includes the Remote Start feature as well...with no mention of it being a separate FOB. Can other Sport owners verify this? Or am I in for a surprise when my Sport shows up with a separate FOB for the Remote Start function?

In a test drive...I'm fairly certain all functions for the car exist on one fob

I've been calling around to try and get the 100 series installed on my wifes explorer and quite honestly am glad I didn't trade in my chevy for a f150. 2 dealers are quoting $499 installed, one of those the parts guy told me it was $250 for the kit and I was still quoted $499 by the service manager. I told him it's only an hours worth of labor and asked if the labor rate was really $240 and he told me "Yup." The other refuses to do anything with the series 100 kit even though http://accessories.ford.com/ directs me to their dealership for installation. They only install the "bronze" kit which has a separate postage stamp sized fob which will no doubt be lost that is simply an aftermarket unit. It doesn't integrate with the vehicle any more then an aftermarket would. The 3rd dealership I called didn't know the explorer has a power lift gate, I mean come on what the crap.

I dunno.. My buddy has an Explorer and Edge XLT trims and added the remote start during purchase and has two key fobs. I think the difference maybe the power lift gate feature. I was told with the power lift gate, you get two key fobs if you do remote start. Don't know if that's the case or not, just what I was told.

The 100 series remote start has everything on 1 remote. Power lift, remote start, unlock, lock, alarm.
