Hey,

So I just got my car back from service and they moved my seat. When I tried to adjust it after getting home I noticed that the rear elevation (driver's seat) switch wasn't working. The front elevation and rear tilt work fine, but not the rear elevation. I checked the fuse it is fine, I mean it is the same button and motor. What the hell is going on? I'd rather fix it myself then have to go through the whole process of bringing it in? Any ideas?

Thanks.

There are two motors that control the up/down and tilt functions. One motor raises/lowers the front, One raises/lowers the rear and when they are run at the same time in the same direction they together raise or lower the seat.
If you want to try to diagnose it your self you need a test light or volt meter to determine if voltage is getting to the motor. If it is getting power and not running you found the problem. If it is not getting power go to the switch and see if you have power there.
I doubt it is a fuse or none of the functions would work.
First thing I would check is for any object under the seat, pop bottle, toy etc.
Something under the seat can push the flex shaft that runs from the motor to the seat track causing it to become disengaged.
I don't know about the Explorer seat but I have worked on my 2012 Mustang seat and the motors are not individually serviceable so the whole seat track with all the motors must be replaced. If a motor is out I would suggest you bite the bullet and take it back to the dealer as the seat track assembly may cost you $500 or more and it is a pain to replace.

It is a 2014 Explorer. It hasn't even had it's first oil change yet. I would hope this is covered under warranty. I checked under the seat, no blockages. This is really annoying.

Do you have memory seats? If so, did you try using the programed memory button to see if that works, assuming you had it programed that is?

No memory seats. Update, I got in the car to go to work and the button works now. What do you think the problem was/is? A loose connection? What should I tell Ford to check for?
