I went to Ford, got their "Premium Fuel Injector Cleaner" (FIR No. 154599), ran the truck down to 7 gallons gas in the tank, dumped the cleaner in, then ran it to empty. I filled up with new gas and tested--and the ping is gone.
Ford's cleaner seemed to work whereas other injector cleaners did not. I was beginning to think it was a timing thing or hot plugs but the detonation at partial throttle seems to have gone away after using Ford's cleaner. I plan to use Fords injector cleaner about every 6 months now.
