Almost forgot, we also have a 30 degree RTi ramp.

Compression gauge?

Is there one there or should I rent/borrow one?

I still can't determine if I have a head gasket on the way out.

only way to find out is pull those heads! cant be that hard.

is it burning any coolant? i recall seeing ur testing the coolant for oil?

hows the truck running. does it "break up" at all under hard acceleratation?

reason i ask about hard acceleration is cylinder pressure should go up as u pump more air fuel in there and if the gasket is truly bad you should have a miss fire type of feel to it.

had a buddy with a turbo d16y8 civic have a miss fire type of feel to it under hard boost (8psi stock internals) and it just ended up being a headgasket going bad. easy fix. now it runs like a champ and hauls ass too LOL

I'd rather not break it open if I don't have to.

I have been testing for combustion gases in the coolant and so far (including twice today) the results have been negative

It's runnning fine. I did notice a different sound from 1 cylinder running the 93 tune at WOT, pulling the trailer last weekend

I'm interested in seeing the compression numbers. The engine has 210,000 miles on it.

I am glad I am good till I hit 50 Psi boost before having to worry about head gaskets, I all have left to do to the Dodge is heat the camshaft gear up and press it back on the camshaft then I can put the front end back together, i have been working on the tuning of the ole 12 valve to minimize the smoke under low boost conditions

then do a compression test. its very simple. you have a body lift right? that makes it even MORE easy to get at the plugs too.

dont focus soley on the numbers youll get. u just want to keep all 6 numbers from each cylinder within 5% of each other. a higher compression ration engine will read higher overall numbers. lower CR engines will read lower.

make sense? you just dont want one cylinder with 20psi while the others have 150. (just making up the 150 number. your could read different.)

that will help you tell if your even getting a seal still.

do you have oil mixed with the coolant? if you dont, and you get good compression readings your gaskets are prolly fine.

That's exactly what I'm looking for.

Pulled the plugs yesterday, 30,500 miles. I think I'll get a fresh set of double platinum's today.

Rick has a compression gauge and he's only 7 miles away. Think I'll borrow it today and give it a shot since I'm 'on call' and can't really go anywhere.

An opportunity like next weelend won't come back around soon. There'll be several guys there that have torn these engines apart, plus the available tools, can't get any better than that!!!;)

Joe, are you going to make it next weekend?

Not likely I would spend more time driving than anything else

i've got a compression gauge at dads.

what time are we starting??

You guys are sooooo lucky to be able to get together like this and have a little wrenching party with so many knowledgeable people. I'm jealous as can be...lol.!!

I can't wait to put a face to all you guys in Moab this year. See you all there!:biggthump

these guys are crazy haha.

Okay I'll make the call. Saturday, 20 March, early birds at 0900.

Sound good, any abjections?

Ryan, PM me your dads adress when you get a chance and I'll make sure the rest that are coming get it.

How can you be jealous?? when you have the Turdle Farm?????

Ryan, are you sure that compression guage has threads long enough? I just tried Rick's and the threads weren't. (put in new plugs anyway)

09:00 works for me. IF I do need head gaskets, mine will take longest to fix so I'll make sure I'm one of the early ones. Kind of early for drinkin beer though.

Turdle farm is a 6 hour round trip, so an overnight stay is mandatory. I love going there, its just an all weekend deal to go. I was thinking it must be nice to have so many fellow wheelers close together as you guys have is all.

Don't get your hopes up - - none of us are very easy on the eyes. . .:wtf::crazy::rant::splat::confused::eek::frustrate

Hey Ryan, do you have a grill - - I plan to bring down some burgers, dogs, etc...?

Phil - I may have more work than you - - been pre-fitting the Duff traction bars and think there may be some additional fab work required...

Paul

Feelin better

OK, I couldn't stand not knowing so I ran down to O'Reileys and picked my own guage for $40.

Not perfect but not as bad as I feared.
210,000 miles
Starting at the Left front;
150
148
147
Right front;
162
155
160

As Kevin suggested, we'll run compression on a couple other rigs for comparison

Phil -

Do you still have that rear leaf with the "|_|" brackets still laying around?

Paul

Paul

I have;
The brackets (they bolt on in place of the plastic piece between the leaves)
The 2 single leaves you gave me
A fresh set of 4door leaf packs from the donor for Kevin's BII project.

I'll put them all in the rig for Saturday.

And the Class III hitch for Spd Ryan.

Anyone need a BW1354-E that needs the shift motor rebuilt?? or a 3.73 TTB pumpkin??
