Prerunner/weekend toy Explorer

I have a thread up in modified 95-01 Explorers, but since mine is mainly off-road I figured it would be more suitable to have a thread in here.

What I am working with

97 2wd Explorer 4 door with 5.0L V-8

Front suspension: 14" Wheel travel

Modified LCA to accept a 1" uniball as the outer pivot then boxed in accordingly. Custom UCA with 7/8" heim as outter pivot and 3/4" heim on frame pivots. Fabtech lift spindle tapped out for the heim and drilled knuckle for a 7/8" on the outter tie rod as well. Fox twin tube bypass shocks as well as a 2.0 body air shock per side assist the stock torsions with spring rate. Fox hydraulic bump stop off of the UCA

Rear suspension: 18" wheel travel

62" race leaf springs by Deaver with custom 12" long shackles. 18x2.5 triple bypasses by Fox though the wheel wells.

Other:

Baker 8" front fenders with FIberwerx 8 " fiber glass rear panels. Front and rear bumpers with a 2" rollcage threaded throughout still in the making. Fullsize axle out back with 4.56 gears and a L/S. 35x12.50 BFG Baja TAs and some Pro comp rims to hit the ground running.

How wide is your track width going to be? I'm thinking it will be approaching 90"? Are you sticking with the Baker fiberglass?

If his setup is similar to mine itll only be about 85-86".

85 will be the max track width with 5-1/8" over per side. Lateswt and greatest. Dude from Torque Monster headers called me today after I left him a message the other day saying I wanted to buy a set and is insanely cool. Going to drop them off by my house on the way to his brother in laws house so I dont have to mess with shipping. I will refer them to everyone I know with a 5.0 Explorer!

heres and update pic after the tear down of the front!

Well I dont have any pics yet but I got a bunch of crap done recently. New torque monster headers installed with new plug/wires. We stubbed out the firewall from the cab cage to the engine cage with 2" tubing to start the cage/shock mounts. Have the new radiator, fans, and new tranny and power steering coolers ready to be mounted as well as ordering up the new hydroboost brakes assist and Howe power steering pump. In the next couple weeks Ill have some pics of the engine cage and new front suspension.

Well heres a pic of the lower arm mostly tig'd up. Still have overlay facial plates and shock tabs to add before fitting up to the truck. Then onto the upper arms so we can cycle and get started on the engine cage.

Well we bolted the lower arm and the spindle on to determine what size wheel I need to get to bring the track with in from 87 to 84-85. The 8's on there now push the width out almost 3 inches so it shouldn't be a problem. Making the upper arm now and steering knuckle on spindle then we can pull everything off and finish the welding that needs to be done on the lowers and spindles.

Got the uppers all tacked and ready to cycle for the shock hoops. So far it cycles 18.5 with some more trimming to do. it looks like well be able to strap it off at 19"

I guess no one likes my thread anymore haha

Got the tie rods built and put a brand new rack in to measure travel. Gets 20" metal to metal

Looks good dude. I like the 37's, if i ever decide to run a FF and big boy hubs im gonna run them.

Those are still the 35s, haha I want to narrow up the front track width so I am going to run inset 17s in order to clear the tie rod so I'm going to step up to the 37s. I have almost everything on order on its way for the FF rear end. Front should be finished this week.

Just order a PATC interceptor 4R70W trans with 2500 race TC so we'll see how that works out. I think I'm going to switch up my gearing in the rear to 5.13s til I get the FF in there with 5.47s

Expensive parts is right. I hate them too! lol. Until I drive this thing again. Should be on its wait later this week.

Got the hydroboost in the other day so we can finally get started on the engine cage. Main tubes are fully welded and now cycling for upper shock location and bump stop.

Little more progress on the engine cage. Waiting on new reservoir 90 deg fittings for the bypasses so used the coilovers to mock this side.
