pressure plate on the flywheel problem

Hi there here is my problem. 2000 ranger 3liter 5 speed manual.
just installed a new clutch kit will not sheft in to 1st from neutral smoothly,forgot or didnt know I had to depress the pressure plate on a press to move the adjusting ring counter clockwise( the 3 springs on the pressure plate). Can these rings be adjusted while depressing the clutch petal to the floor and having someone sliding the adjusting ring counter clock wise?
