Hey guys!

So I was doing something I shouldnt have.... driving fast through a puddle. But it wasnt an ordinary puddle... this thing was huge. Anyway, about halfway through, the engine started to choke a little... when i gave it more gas I couldnt get my RPMs up! Then, my engine shut off, and it took a lot of work to get it started again... once I did, it ran rough for a few minutes.

I think I know what happend. Water got where it shouldnt. My question:

How do I stop that? Also, how bad is that for my baby? :)

Taking in water is pretty bad and could sieze up your engine. For future deep water crossings i would add a snorkel.

XLT is right. Snorkel to stop it. Or don't drive through water.

How bad? Depends. You suck up enough water, you hydrolock and then bye-bye engine. Remember, water doesn't compress.

I highly recommend changing your oil ASAP, as you likely have water or at least some moisture in it.

Awesome! Thanks guys. 98 Mountaineer... is there a writeup for making a snorkel?

There are multiple ones, check them all out for ideas. Good luck!

if that ever happens again to the point where your engine shuts off, pull your plugs and turn over the engine to push the water out of the cylinders, like paraphoe said water dosnt compress. second, check your airbox and intake to make sure their dry. third, turn around and hitter in reverse! lol I've blown 4motors in 3 different rigs by hydrolocking them..sucks
