This is my first post and I have an issue with the brakes on my 97 Explorer. If I barely press on the brake pedal the brake lights come on and the brake interlock is not active. However if I press on the brake pedal enough to activate the brakes the brake lights do not function and the brake interlock is active if in park. I would appreciate any information as to what might be causing this.

There is a brake switch on your brake pedal. Its either broke or out of adjustment. Maybe one of the screws on it broke.

The brake switch runs about $10 at www.rockauto.com if it needs replacing. I would give you the part number but I don't know what engine you have.
