Problem with trailer plug

The truck is a 98 4x4 sport. I had the harness that connects to the plug underneath the drivers side tail light. When I plugged it in, it wasn't working. Right now, the white and the green wires are working correctly. I get no power from the yellow wire and when I connect the brown wire it causes fuse #30 to blow. I cut the connector off and wired the green and white from the four prong plug to the factory trailer wiring. So, the passenger side works correctly. I wired the yellow wire from the four prong straight to the drivers side turn signal and the brown wire to the drivers side running light. Every thing works on the trailer except the drivers side brake light, since the brake and the running light are seperate signals. Is there any way to correctly wire the drivers side without using the factory trailer wiring. Or, does anyone have any idea why the yellow and brown wires aren't working on the factory trailer wiring? Seems weird that one side works and the other doesn't.
