Project Double R...

Yes I have a issues I can't stop messing with these Fords. This is my personal project, but not my first SAS Ranger project built one for buddy and he helped me. Which was my 2nd Ford SAS my first Ford SAS was my DD Project Merc (98 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0 V8). Already have about 20k miles on the Merc in little over a year.

My new Ranger just picked up April 15th 92 Ranger 4.0L 4x4 bad tranny picked it up for $750. Truck has 159k and pretty rust free just a few spots here and there. Code name Rock Ranger otherwise know as Double R.

Already sold the 8.8 and bed off it. I will be keeping this one pretty simple very similar to TNT.
Things I will be doing...
Trussed Cherokee High pinion Dana 30/ Explorer disc brake 8.8 4.56 gears.
Flatbed
Exo cage
Bronco II tank
Chevy 63-64" leafs
Shorten wheel base to 110"
And a lot more. Should be starting this beast next week I hope. Depends how the new kitchen goes for the boss(my wife for those not married).

And for those wondering why the Dana 30 they are cheap and parts are easy to come by. Which is nice if you do need replacement parts. The Mercs D30 has held up to over 13 trails and 35s with beadlocks without breakage so I would say it is very good axle.

I like where you stowed the jack. Great use of space. Also really nice of you to carry tools to help out the Jeep guys when they break, you are such a nice guy!

What a day! Holy Cross was intense. One the Jeeps that went with turned around headed back cause it was too tough. And the other Jeep ended up breaking just over half way. He was camping so we had to leave him behind since he was just a tag a long and we were running out of day light. I left my house Yesterday morning at 7am and didn't get home until after 9pm. All 3 Rangers made it. All 3 Rangers used there winches for the first time. LOL :D

Rock Ranger on the hard line.

TJ high centered on the hard line. Merc made this line last year it was tough. I thought that Rock Ranger could do it but it didn't have the power.

very nice thread, seems like the explorers (and/or) rangers with ttb take a sas very well. I already have a 97 Ex, but wondering if i should switch platforms before i start a proper build.

If you want it to be easier then yes. The Dana 30 coil mounts line right up with the Ranger and 1st gen Ex. Saves some fab time.

Yeah it is great. Truck is fun to drive now. Should do a lot better on gas now too. A4LD worked good around town. But once I hit the highway it sucked. The converter never locked up. So the engine just revved all the time.

Wow. I just read through two of your builds and I'm following the lazyboy build. You have some talent my friend. I had a buddy of mine move to Colorado a few months ago. The Holy Cross trail is on my 4x4 bucket list. If I ever make it out there, we will have to meet up.

Thanks! I just love tinkering on things. Yeah let me know when you are in town. Holy Cross is amazing!
