Pros and Cons of IFS when wheelin'

hey im wonderin whats the pros and cons of independent front suspension on a 98 mountaneer that i plan to use for wheelin? especially when it comes to suspension upgrades and how big of tires should i run at stock height?

31's, pros = none, cons= lifts are very expencive, RDC, Dixon, and Superlift make lifts.

Pro could be: V-8 Torque if so-equipped.
Con: V-8 = all wheel drive and no low range.

For a V-6, Pro: Selectable t-case.
Con: V-6.
