My son thought I should share this idea. I'm sure it's not original, and if it's already been shown here, I apologize. But this seems to work pretty well.

Here is what I have...a very expensive AVIC-Z2 Navigation system. Please excuse the woodgrain...I bought it that way:

That thing wouldn't last more than a few minutes in some places around here. And alarms only make them work quicker. So I went to eBay and found me a radio that didn't work for $5. Perfect.

So I removed the face plate from the radio, and glued the buttons in place. Please note the little tiny piece of Velcro at the top.

I placed a matching piece of Velcro on my dash bezel, and now I slip this into place and it's held with the Velcro. It takes someone with a very knowledgable eye to catch that it's just a cover. And since all my antenna's are mounted under the dash pad, nothing at all shows to indicate what is actually installed in the car.

i'm just going to hire some kid with a shotgun to stand on top of mine and aim at intruders lol :)

:Di meet thatcriteria....

Such a great idea! I nominate you for the Nobel Peace Prize! Congratulations!

Good idea and you could always fake them out with a fake antenna if you wanted to i guess

so i tried this on my 02 sport with factory cd on a jvcavx800 i trimmed some of the plastic pieces off the back of the face and it still covers the jvc but sticks out of the dash about an inch, but its waaaay better than nothing!

good idea. i was thinking about doing this whenever i decide to buy me an indash screen. had an avic n1 in there first time and *******s broke the door lock and got it.

I kinda did what you did but i took it a step up. I took a piece of black plastic glued it to a face plate that was messed up but fix on my HU and the cut a small hole in it and ran a few wires in it then i popped it in from the out side it looked like there was no radio at all

I like those ideas... I think I heard of someone else doing it on the F150 Forums. But i really like how clean and factory that looks.

P.S. Good call on the Z2. I love mine. Have you done the lockout upgrade to yours yet?

Ya i like how it looks to but i know some place wear they will brake in to get a stock one too. but im going to do this one soon.

Wow thats a great idea! I use a piece of aircraft cable to secure my decks in the car. Im sure you guys already know about this... I bolt a piece for cable to the back of the radio. feed the cable behind the dash all the way down to the floor. Install the radio like normal. Once the radio is in it's final resting place I pull the cable tight and bolt it the cable some where under my dash. Any available bolt will do. The thiefs can pull on the deck as hard as they want, but it won't budge.

When I put my headunit in, I plan to use Torq-Set screws... I suspect thiefs have smartened up and may carry Torx screwdrivers, but I doubt that they'll know what to do with Torq-Set screws. A regular screwdriver won't get them out... it'll just slip.

<--- if you don't know what a Torq-Set screw is.
