The second sign might be more effective than you'll ever know. Dogs with some size are a great deterrent. Tip - if you get somewhere where they have a big dog and a small dog, watch out for the smaller one. While the big dog is barking and sounding scary, the little one will sneak up behind you and bite your ankle. Personal experience, more than once, but only got nipped once.

My beautiful pad, all torn up. It always looks worse before it gets better. Footings without the patio. Contractor remarked on how big the garage is going to be.

A few warning signs I've seen that I liked, trespassers will be shot survivors will be shot again and Beware of attack wife

I won't use signs mentioning shooting someone while on my property. If I ever had to shoot someone there, it opens me up to a big lawsuit. Arizona law allows someone to shoot a intruder who has broken into their house, but it doesn't mean they are immune from lawsuits. It is also a big flag advertising you own guns, something thieves target.

Had a friend back in Kansas that had a sign saying "If you can read this... You're in range"

Under slab plumbing getting inspected this week. Under slab electrical should be done by next week. Concrete is planning on pouring end of next week, except for the patios which will be done after its framed, but before the trusses. Framing is set to be delivered on the 27th, framers are starting on the 28th. I need to get back out there pronto, at least before the framing starts.

I was looking at the pictures, thinking why are all those big rocks in the fill? Then I remembered 90% of the house will sit on native ground. There is not much fill even at the front of the house. The patio is the only part that is entirely on fill. I asked the contractor to have the subs pile up the rocks and even boulders instead of putting them back in the ground near plumbing. I can always use them.

Talked to the contractor for a while this morning. I sent the concrete guy pictures of what I want the patio finish to look like. He is pouring the house part, the lift pads, and the footers Thursday. The patios and garage will be a few days after that. About five, 10-yard loads total. Contractor was out there this morning with the concrete rebar inspector so that's done. He is also working on getting the power out to the pad and well. Said it should be towards the end of the month, which will work out for the framing and very good for me and the RV. With power to the pad and well, a porta-potty and dumpster, I will only have to go into town for supplies. I can drain the gray water tank like I have been, with a 75' hose over the side of the pad. It's legal and encouraged in Arizona.

I told the concrete guy I want the patios to look like the first picture, but with minimum seam cuts like the second picture. The patios, peeler posts and giant timber truss are the first things any visitor sees when they drive up. The patio will be where I spend the majority of my leisure time. It's the focal point of the house. I also told him I want everyone to ask me who did my concrete work. The contractor said the concrete guy will do it how I want without me being there.

Something I did not know is the outdoor BBQ will have to have it's own propane source. Code prevents a gas line to be buried under concrete, even outside. I have an adaptor to fill bottles off of a residential propane tank, so it's a minor inconvenience.

The spec houses are moving right along. Same concrete guy has a crew over there. They should have them railed by tomorrow and ready for the plumber, and electrician to do their thing.

I spent an hour on the phone with the concrete guy today. Great guy. He's excited to be doing a job where he can slow down and be creative. He does a lot of spec houses, which are a get in and get out deal. He's going to hold off on the patio pour and send me pictures and talk with me until we decide what to do. He suggested I not color the concrete now, just get the texture right. He said that it would be better to get the house finished, then decide on staining the concrete. Modern stains and sealers hold up very well. That's what he's doing with his house.

Concrete guy said it's over 80 yards total. At least eight 10-yard loads. It's over three of the spec houses concrete.

Great thread. Did you ever find any gold?

Haven't looked that much. I've found some promising spots, but haven't done any detecting. My buddy is supposed to come down from Idaho and bring a dry sluce. When he does, we will set it up in the wash and move some dirt with the backhoe.

That sunrise shot of the pump, wow!
Brings back memories of early starts doing that in Escondido and Poway in summer, beating the heat is number 1.

Excellent, would love to see the layers and if you get into any old channel gravels.
