pushrod or sohc 91

i am doing a motor swap in my 91 from a 94 ranger and i was wondering if both motors are pushrod or sohc i have the engine code for mine thats a x and i read somewhere that x means pushrod but i cant find any numbers on the ranger 4.0.


are they both pushrod or is the 94 a sohc and if so will the block still work in my 91 with my intake

SOHC was introduced in '97, well after the '94 left the showroom.

Incidentally, I hear rumors that the 4.0 SOHC is about to be retired from Ford's lineup.
 












I doubt they'll retire the 4.0 sohc so soon when its in the 05-current Mustang but I've also heard they'll retire the 4.0 sohc after the 2007 models.
 






good, i hope they bring out a DOHC 4.0...bah should be around 275hp...lol...that would kick ass!!!

Sorry very disapointed in my sohc lately, under normal times i love it, sad to see it go, hope its replaced with something better.
