I have an 87 Ranger, 5 spd (2.9 V6 if that helps)
The gear shift slipped out of the tranny on me the other day, effectively leaving me stranded. (didn't help any that I was delivering pizza at the time):thumbdwn:
Anyway, When re-inserting the shaft back into the top of the gear selector in the transmission, is there supposed to be some sort of plastic sleeve, or bushing, that it is supposed to slide into first?

As it is currently, see figure A.
My question is if there is some sort of bushing, such as the part drawn in yellow.
As you can see from diagrams, there is a lot of space between the end of the shaft and the socket it slides into.
Also, does anyone happen have an exploded diagram of the gearshift and how it connects to the tranny?
