- 1999 Ranger XLT 4x4
I have a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4 with 3.0 engine, automatic transmission. My transmission had gone bad, so I bought a used 1999 Ranger automatic transmission with only 46,000 miles on it. I hired an auto mechanic to swap out my old one with the new one, including the torque converter that came with the new one.
The question I have is this...It seems the power is gone that I once had. I really notice it when I'm towing my 6x8 foot trailer with a mower on it. The RPM's seem to stay really high just to travel at 65 to 70 mph. I've also noticed it when I'm not pulling anything and I'm traveling along at 55 mph and I go to pass someone on a two lane road. It shifts into passing gear fine, but it just seems like it takes longer to get up to speed to make the pass. Any ideas on what might make it seem to be not as powerful?
P.S. The transmission shifts fine and operates as it should. It just seems the power is gone from the truck that I once had.
