Question about factory JBL door speakers

I have a 1991 Eddie Bauer with the JBL premium sound system. I would like to update the door speakers. Are the oe speakers 2-way or 3-way? Which one should i replace them with, the 2-way or the 3-way? I currently use the factory head unit with a sony cd changer. I have no plans of upgrading the head unit, but would like to know what you would recommend as far as replacement door speakers?

the "premium" system has 2ways. they look like component speakers attached by the same plate. any 6x8 and 5x7 speaker will fit without modifications. you will probably jsut want to go with the pioneers. in february they are releasing a 6x8 that has horns on it instead of tweeters, im planning on using those for my rear fill. i hope i could answer some of your questions.

So, with the factory head unit, should i just stay with buying the 2-way or would it benefit at all to buy the 3-way? If the 3-way will not make much difference, then i will buy the 2-way being it is a little cheaper anyway.Thanks

3 ways will almost always give more definition to the music, seeing how they can split up the frequencies better. if you can spare the extra cash, go for the 3s, but the 2 ways will be fine with a little less sound quality
