I'm hoping some of you who have done this mod can help clear up a couple of questions. I have already done the search thing, and read through the tech article on this subject.
I have found a overhead console that will hook up in my 99 X. It is the short console with just the compass, light, and door opener comparment (no sunroof).
Questions:
--Is it just about mandatory to get the wire harness too, or can I just run my own wires. I have plenty of experience running wires. Are there special plugs and such that makes the harness invaluable?
--What does the mounting bracket look like? Is it just a metal bar piece? Can it be purchased through Ford?
--Where does the compass take its readings from? Is it internall with the pod, or a sender like the temp sensor has?
--Can the temp sensor be purchased reasonable through Ford?
--When mounting the console...are the screw holes/mounting points mentioned in the how-to article moulded into the roof above the headliner? Welded as part of the roof skin? WHERE are these mounting lugs???
Thanks for any info you can help me with. This looks like a fun project, and I surely can't just let the Explorer sit there without some mod work to do??!! I believe the console I can get is cheap, but might not come with anything but the console itself.
