i have the following-

an 11" sharp home video flatscreen monitor with center channel speaker built in (gonna go in the center of my dash)

an eclipse 2100 equalizer (mids and highs and lows)

an audiocontrol epic 150 equalizer (lows, and spl meter)

an mtx electronic crossover

and some awesome speakers (that most of you already know about- abc6003q audiobahn 3-way components in custom kickpanels, bose 6 by 9s in the rear doors, and he2 15s in the rear with some great rockford amps.

for now i have a pioneer premier deh-p650 head unit. i like it, but not that much- and it isn't really being utilized other than as a cd reader because of all the other junk in my signal path. i'm considering selling it and buying a clarion v5715 head unit that has dvd playback as well as cd. it would work fine because i only need one set of preouts from the hu to the eclipse eq (the first thing in the signal path anyways). it has 308 mv preouts only. will it provide solid enough cd playback? should i just add a ps2 to my existing system and keep the 650? i've installed one as such in an rx7 before and it seemed to work fine, but the menus are hard to use and i don't know how reliable it really is. also, i'm not really that much into video games. here is a link to the manual for the clarion http://www.teamclarion.com/SharedWe...a630071fab1/bfac8249c7daeb7288256a64006efbb1/$FILE/VS715.pdf

i just want someone else to take a look and tell me if its something i should do- or if i should just keep the 650 and add a ps2. or should i do both- so as to avoid using the ps2 as a dvd player?

btw- ever seen an 11" SHARP flatscreen in a truck?

I don't know if the PS2 will alst very long in the truck. It is meant to be used on a stationary surface. The bouncing around will kill it fast.

agreed

its pretty common to see them in there, but i agree that it doesn't seem that durable or like it would be that great of a player (its important that the audio playback from the dvd's has a great signal)

too much stuff, if you ask me. i'd stick with a simple pioner in-dash dvd/mp3/cd with either a flip up screen or like a 7" seperate screen....if that even! is it really necessary to go that nuts? course, i do understand the sound but come one...do you really watch dvds in the car....and if so, i think you mioght want to spend less time there. if its for passengers, then just throw some 5" screens in the headrest or a flip-down 9" er.

dude- i already own the 11" sharp screen. if you've ever viewed a flat screen made by sharp for home video and a car audio brand screen they are not even remotely similar. this screen is like infinitely better. also i have already cut a great big hole in the plastic piece from the head unit surround and have begun test fitting/glassing everything together. there's no way i can go back now. i just hope i can figure out how to design a center console that will hold all the crap it needs to (air lift gauges, heater controls, hu, two equalizers, ps2?)

that- and i do plan on watching dvd's in the car because the intimacy of having such power and imaging in such a small setting will be absolutely incredible.

besides all that this truck is also fast on the way to bigger and better things next summer on the show circuit and as my demo vehicle.

also, a simple 7" flip up costs roughly 5 times what all this is going to cost me for better picture

i just never understood the massive systems wit hteh dvds and screens and all....maybe its one of those things that you only get once you have had one. hey, what can i say...i'm a broke @$$ college kid! i'd love to see some pics of what you come up with though.

well, i just purchased the clarion cd/dvd/mp3 player. i can't wait to see how it all works together.

which gaming console would you add? it can be anything now that i don't need to play dvds

X-Box! So you can play some Outlaw Beach Volleyball. There's a code on there where you can make all the chicks have bigger.. volleyballs.
