Yo Blackmagic... got some questions for you and the other O1+ sportsters out there...

I am lookin for a new car, and this has become somewhat of a front runner. Ok so here go some of my probably obvious questions:

* Does the 01+ Sport use the same bolt pattern as the previous years? or is it the same as the new 02+ 4 doors?

* How difficult is it to do a lift/lower? Torsion Bar and shackles right?

* Do you have any complaints? Anything you would warn someone about before buying?

*Any particular things to look out for as far as worn out parts that go bad first?

* Who are some of the ppl on the board with lifted/lowered O1+ sports? So I can begin planning the changes ;)

Thanks guys. I am hoping to be part of the O1+ party soon. (You can pick up a used O1 with 30k miles here for around 12-13,000,, which is closer to what i wanna pay than the new Expedition base model)

Newer sports still use the same bolt pattern for wheels.

Changing height within 2" of stock either way is very easy. Up with shackles, down with lowering blocks.

For the most part, later Sports are the same as 95+ second gens.

Yes, they are the same

Correct

Nothing that I can think of, just look over each indevidule X

IAC and Thurmastat are the only two problems I have had. Both fixed under warranty.

02XSport, 2K1Xplorer, kmaximus_77, ShadowA2J, 1forsnow, 2k1exsport, burnin_up, Crimson, Cybrmartian, Johhny Island, kingsleysurf, SiLenZe,
SWLathrop, UrLosingBd, xplorerchic, XplorerSport01, xrdr27. Those are a few I have spoken with on mods to their O1+'s

Hope that helps some! Let me know what's next!

Well looks like Black Magic pretty much summed it up!:D I have just started modding mine, not quite so much as Matt's, but I'll answer any questions I can.

You should be very pleased. A Sport would be an excellent vehicle for the price. Used ones go every cheap in our area....

I had the same 2 probs at about 57k

IAC was fixed free by Ford. The Thermo. was fixed by me, for a few dollars.

Overall I love my truck... looks great and now drives great. Its lowered 2" w/ rear blocks, and a front torsion twist (took the bolts out). Got an extra inch w/ the low profile tires (255/50/18s)
Bit more of a bumpy ride, but d@mn it looks good, and I can take curves like a mustang, heh
Edlebrock ISAs for lowered X's on the front. Large swaybar from EE in the rear.
If I had to give 2 complaints.... it would be
#1 that I can't order my 'ugly grey' trim in 'pretty white'
#2 that at higher speeds my center console vibrates too much

Retrolantern Do you have any pictures of your Explorer. If you do can you send them to me?

Retrolantern I wouldn't mind having a manual. Fun to drive, and more power to the ground!

yeah...I'll e-mail ya some pics.... and I hear ya on the manual that would be fun, but I'd prolly tear my X up , hehe

Heh, I am lookin at the harvest gold.. what do you think?
Harvest Gold, with the XLS Rims, TT and shackles... 31s fit, right?
--Bryan
PS - The sale has 9 in stock... 4 tan, 3 Dark Blue, and 2 White... Any opinions?

well the thing about the dark blue... I like it when waxed and polished, but when it isnt taken care of, it looks really dull... I saw an 01 Sport with dark blue, and it was kinda pathetic looking... Know what i mean?

I have a 2001 Sport.

Get ready for TSB 02-08-01.

Thats your eventual demise of your timing chain!!

well Matt, looks like my dream is finally gonna become reality. I found a 2003 Sport XLS, auto tranny, today in the paper for $14,988... Basically, its a base model with an auto transmission. Works fine for me, bc I plan on chjanging rims in the future anyways, and other than that, the new XLT only offers differnt wheels, step rails (which would be removed anyways), and creature comforts like fog lights that I can add. The one thing I am gonna miss is Cruise Control tho.. oh well.. its a heck of a price... We got a buyers order on it, and Monday paper work will commence. Wish me luck that nothin goes wrong. Woo hoo... its coming into fuition (sp?)...

Yup, Congrats!!! I have Loved mine ever since I got it. I just can't believe I never bought an Explorer before this one. I have learned my lesson:)

I bought mine the same as you are doing. I added the fogs and running boards and paid much much less

Enjoy the new X!!

Hey I disagree with that, then again I'm kind of **** when it comes to keeping mine clean.
I know there's alot of people here who will disagree with me but I like the dark blue better than the black (sorry Black Magic)
Not that I don't like the black, but that's just my preference.

No, I understand. The blue has the depth that they black does not have. But I still like the Black better IMO. But I do like the dark blue too, when clean!
