how does the transfer case effect reverse? I have heard the transfer case being bad when reverse goes out

also i checked the travel on the reverse servo piston. When I gently place a long screwdriver into the piston rod hole it actually took more screwdriver length to touch the band than the piston rod currently has. The rod itself does not appear to be broken, but I do not know what the original length is.
I do have manual first so I am a bit confused by this since I am not a transmission guy

If the transfer case isnt "holding" gear (either HI or LO mode), as the case with a broken shift fork, then applying input torque to the transfer case could kick its planetary selector gear out of position and into Nuetral since this gear's "teeths" are cut with an angle to allow it to slide into another gear. At this point, your vehicle should not be able to move.

However, if only Reverse is going out, and putting the vehicle back into [D]rive still moves the vehicle, then the problem is probably not of the transfer case but rather of the transmission.

can someone answer the question about the servo piston rod
