2003 Explorer Sport Trac
My old man bought a 2003 Explorer Sport Trac a few weeks ago. He's away on business right now, but he mentioned a problem to me before he left, im here to try and solve it.

His key fob is worn down so its hard to use the "unlock" button all the time so he usually just manually uses the key and unlocks the door.

If he doesn't use the keyfob to unlock the truck, when he tries to turn on the vehicle with the key it wont turn on.

Is this part of some security system or the immobilizer system?

You mean it won't start ...... or the key won't turn ....... or it turns and no dash lights come on? Not sure what you mean here.

Easiest/best solution, pick up a couple fobs off of ebay for a few bucks and program them yourself for free.

The key will turn, but the engine wont start. I hear one beep ( the same beep if you dont buckle your seat belt or leave the door ajar) and thats it. Apparently the key hasnt been coded i guess to turn off the immobilizer even-though it's the original key.

When you insert the key does the "THEFT" light blink fast, turn off, stay on solid?

Using the fob has nothing to do with the truck starting or not. The chip in the key itself is what enables the truck to start. The beep puzzles me though.

EDIT: I was assuming here that the remote is a factory FORD item and not part of an aftermarket remote start system. IF it is an aftermarket remote system then that's where your problem lies. Does this truck have the keypad on the door?

good point on the theft light, i didnt think to look at it. ill check it out tomorrow when i leave for work. too cold for right now and its under a couple feet of snow.
