Quick question...

Ever since I lost 4th gear...Ive been spinning my 4.0 at around 2800rpms to keep between 70-75 on the freeway. My saving grace here are my 3.08 gears ...

My 4.0 has 289,000 miles on it and seems like its in excellent mechanical shape....Leaks oil from the rear main though...oil pressure is good when running it at 2800 rpm, even over long stretches of time.

My question is...its it safe to run the 4.0 at nearly 3000 rpms for long periods of time? It never overheats or anything like that....How about the tranny? Is running it in 3rd with the TQ locked at 3000 rpm hurting it more than it all ready is?

Thanks!

I wouldn't think... I pull my 4 wheeler trailer about everyday this time of year and i don't use overdrive when I'm pulling it BUT I'm not running as fast as you are either.. I'm sure one of these other guys will be along after while that knows more than i do..
