I have a 1997 XLT 4WD 4.0 OHV with an automatic transmission. I accidentally purchased a radiator for and 4.0 SOHC. My question is will it still fit? I know they are different but the reason I ask this question is because I noticed that another seller was selling a radiator that he said fit both the 4.0 OHV and the 4.0 SOHC. Your help is much appreciated.

the rad cradle is the same, the only difference may be the rad it self may have more cores. if that is the case, it might be a little tighter fit, but it will go in.

If the place that sold it to you doesn't know, and they won't take it back, then there's only one way to find out ;-)

And hey, you're in NM, so if it has more cores (in other words, if it is thicker) that's better for the 8 months of heat you experience.

There really shouldnt be any difference. On my OHV to SOHC swap I reused the OHV rad and the SOHC hoses, everything lined up perfect.

double row core

I think when the SOHC V6 was first installed in 1997 the stock core was a double row 2inch thick radiator. In later years Ford installed a single row 1 inch thick radiator. My 2000 SOHC V6 had the single row core and I replaced it with a double row. I don't know if the OHV V6 used single or double row cores.

Thank you all for your responses. I decided to send it back and buy the correct one. I figured it would fit in place but from looking at various pictures it looks like the transmission cooler lines do not exactly line-up and I didn't want to bent them. Also the one I received was only a 1 row when the original was a 2 row. I definitely need the better cooling capacity. It was really all my fault for not reading all the information before ordering.
