Radio code?

I picked up a 98 EB Explorer and the last owner had a fancy system with amps and such but took it all out before I got it. He said the stock system worked fine when he took it out and gave it to me. I pluged in the 3 plugs and nothing looked like no power. I ran a scan and get Code B1 359 Ignition Run/ Accessory Circuit Failure. We replaced the Ignition switch and got nothing checked all fuses and relays but can't find any thing wrong. I picked up a radio from the junk yard it only had 2 plugs no 6 disc changer like this EB has but it will no turn on. ot sure what they did to hook up what was in here but I see no strage wires or splices in the stock wires anyone out their play around with this stuff that can help us?

One thing to consider is if the previous owner had the door speakers routing to one of the AMPs they had installed the speakers may not be able to play sound from the stock radio.

Chances are the radio works but the display is no good; quite common.

Check for volatage on light green/ pink and red/ black and pink/ black wires to see if they have power also check your ground there should also be another red black wire I think pin 1 that is radio illumination test light should dim when switch is dimmed. But manly check ground.

OK I have,
.03v at pin 1 red/black
.30v at pin 3 red/black
00 at pin 6 pink/black
12.5 at pin 9 green/pink

not sure how or where to check for ground

Those are great charts. However my system has a sub woofer in the rear passanger side with the 4 speakers in the doors and both steering wheel contorls and rear seat controls. Their are 3 plugs in the back of the radio. Of course it has to be the most involved system Ford put in a 98 explorer for my first time trouble shooting a radio. I think I have a ground problem so where do G100 and G202 goto. Looks like I have to tear this dash apart even more then I have so far.

What do they mean by hot in start and hot in run? Is that not the same thing? and what are all the numbers 1000, 57, 694 and so on?

No, "Start" is just when you turn the key to start the engine.
There are more diagrams, I just showed the ones with the power.
The speakers in doors get full audio when you have the radio without RDS button.
When you have the radio with RDS, the sub receives the bass, while the rear speakers receive only medium/high audio portion.

Hot in start will only have power(+12v) when the key is in start(all the way forward, cranking the starter). Hot in accessory/run will only have power(+12v) when the key is in the run(1st position forward from off) or accessory(1st position back from off) position. You would need to check those wires with the key in the respective position. Before you worry about the ground make sure you have the correct voltage at the correct wires at the correct switch positions. Find a good ground in the dash to hook your meter ground probe to and check that first. If they don't check out, then start troubleshooting there. If they do, then put your multi-meter in ohms or continuity mode and start checking from your known good ground to all of the grounds in the harness.

Ok we got thr radio working but no front panel lights.

Did check illumination fuse. Sorry I can't post up diagram like that I work for ford and they say that is a no no but relaying the info and making sure you follow the right path they didn't say anything about that. You did check voltage on the wire running to the illumination if it has voltage and radios working it will be the bulb and ford doesn't show a procedure to replacing it they just say to send it in for repair at a ford remunfacturing place. I'm sure it is a soldered in build but it could be a LCD display just remove the front cover screws from the radio and take a look inside

What fuse goes with pin 1 looks like I have no volts at pin 1

Ya fuse 9 had hairline break. got power no lights.

If the radio itself is working, then that's a common issue. If you search radio display fix there are several threads on it.

Display power supply (internal to radio) is bad. Is a well-known issue for RDS radios - if you have that one.
