Have a 1998 Eddie Bauer Explorer with OEM Radio, a while back the time, station, ect., display went out, but would come back on once in a while. Now it is out all the time. I pulled radio and took circuit board out, had heard that sometimes the Ford radio was notorious for heating up and cracking solder joints.
I inspected board with a magnifying glass but could see no signs of overheating or a bad solder joint. Did see one small spot where it looked like flux had puddled a little and dried hard like varnish. Cleaned it up and reinstalled radio, everything works but the display. Anyone have any ideas on the cause for the blackout.
