i was going to get the KKM tru-rev kit for my truck next week, but then i thought to myself: what about ram air? when i ran a search on this page for ram air, i got no results. i refuse to believe that no one in this entire explorer community has done a ram air install, be it, home made or a kit from somewhere. i found this link that tells how to do it: Dead Link Removed could someone who knows more than me take a look and see if that would be accurate for a '98 sport? (obviously some of the sizes and locations might be off) or could i just cut a hole in the stock airbox and run a tube to the stock airbox with a k&n drop in filter?...or would i be better off getting the KKM kit and running the ram air hose to the filter on the KKM?

any suggestions, advice, input...even rumors would be appreciated

thanks

Ram air isn't too effective unless you are going to go 120 mph or faster. However cold air is good no matter what speed you go, and many people when they say "ram air" really mean "cold air".

In my personal opin a KKM or K&N conical filter, with a custom fabbed airbox, and a big air tube running into it from outside, would be the best. Also use cool tape or some other heat reflector on the outside of your air box and air tube to deliver the coldest densest air to your engine.
