I can get Rancho RS5000s and Monroe Reflex truck shocks for $39.99 each. I can't really decide which to get, I don't do a lot of wheeling right now because I can't afford to fix broken parts. For mainly on road driving, what shocks do you guys prefer??

I would definately go with the Rancho's.

Good luck.....

I vote Ranchos too. When my OEM shocks die I'm getting some Ranchos RS5000s.

I had Rancho 9000's and was not too happy with them. I really like the Billstiens I have now.

I've never had Ranchos but I do like my Reflex. Lifetime warantee on Monroe.

Rancho's also have a lifetime warranty, the problem is you need to use it every few years if you off-road at all. Mine were wearing out after one year of wheelin'.

My Monroe Reflexes give too harsh of a ride for me. My 2wd Explorer's front had to be TT about 1.5" to match the rear after Air Lift air bags were installed.

I am looking for a softer riding shock. Maybe I just need a longer shock? Are 4X4 shocks a little longer than 2wd shocks?

Mike

Go with the reflexs. Had the 9000's, and they wore out in six months. 9000's are not woth the money if you don't do a lot of offroading.

i highly doubt they wore out in 6 months and even if they did you could just take em back wher you bought them and they willo give you new ones no questions asked

I am moving this to the proper Forum

These are the first negative posts I have ever heard here about the Rancho 9000X's. Or is this the old Rancho 9000 we're referring to?

Yes, they did wear out after 6 months, and heard from many others who have had the same experience as me. I replaced the 9000,s under warranty, and the next pair wore out in about the same period of time. I went with the Reflexes and have been very happy with them, even if they are a bit stiff. People ranted and raved about the Edlebrocks which lasted me only 40,000 miles.

I too find it hard to believe that 9000s wore out.

What do you do to them?

My truck is used as a daily driver and I don't do any offroading. I had the shop I bought them from exchange them with another pair, but the guy at the 4 wheel shop told me they have had people return them because of an inner seal problem, that Rancho has failed to correct. I also had to use shock extenders with these because they were to short. It seems some people get a good pair while others are not so lucky. I guess I am one of the unlucky ones. I still like my Reflex shocks, and they provide good stability on the road which Rancho never did.

Is this the Rancho 9000 or the Rancho 9000X we're talking about? They're different shocks.

They are the new 9000X series, not the old 9000's we all once knew. 9 way adjustable settings. I was very excited to get and install them as I heard many positive comments about them. Don't get me wrong, they are a good offroad shock, but not very stable on the road. I stilll have them maybe someone on the board would like to buy them, AS IS!.

While my Reflexes have a harsh ride on my Limited V-8, I will say they have a very controlled ride. After two years, they are still really solid. As we tow a trailer, this is a plus.

I just had Monroe Reflex shocks installed and I can tell you they ride fantastic, compared the the stocks, I just got rid of(56k miles). I am very impressed with the way the Reflex's feel. I don't do any offroading so the Ranchos seemed a bit much for just everyday driving. I got the Reflex's at Sears for $57 a shock, installed. Not the greatest deal, but by far, better than any local shop could do(believe it ot not).
