A few months ago I came across a conversion/upgrade to convert the rear brake drums on a 1998-2001 Ranger to rotors using Mountaineer rear rotors and calipers. I forgot to bookmark the page... now I can no longer find it. Anyone know the thread or web page?
Thanks!
Use the Ford Racing Kit M2300-G this kit works for the Ford 8.8 and 9" axles. I just did this on my Sport Trac, and for $320.00 you wont be to piece together a kit on your own, unless you use junkyard parts and do not rebuild them.
This swap is a direct bolt on to the 31-spline 8.8 Ranger axle assemblies used in the FX4 Level II.
Things are not quite so easy for the 28-spline axles commonly found on most Rangers. The bolt pattern at the end flange of the 28-spline Ranger axle housing is different from that of the 95~2001 31-spline Explorer/Mountaineer. There is how-to at the Tech Library of www.therangerstation.com that shows how one owner adapted the Ex caliper plates to his 28-spline 8.8 Ranger axle.
I know that this doesn't answer your Mountaineer question but here is different approach to doing a rear disc conversion on a 28-spline Ranger using Mustang parts.
