My dad has a 92 ranger 4.0L 4x4 with the A4LD auto trans. Today he was sitting in it after driving and he revved it up in park and it took off. Now there is no park. Any thoughts or ideas?

What about reverse? and neutral? does it move forward or try to move forward in those ranges as well?

Reverse, Neutral, drive, OD, 1st and 2nd work perfect. When you go to park its like its in neutral but if you rev it its as if its in drive. I am currently checking to see if the reverse pawl is broken.

After getting info from other forums, I've seen many say on a 4x4 A4LD the parking pawl is "practically right there after you take the transfer case off". All I see is the output shaft and a solenoid/governor. Am I messing something here?

You have to remove the extension housing on the back of the tranny, 17mm bolts.

Thank you, I took the extension housing off and parts fell out. The parking pawl is in two pieces. now I have to find one.
