I never put the two together, but my ABS light came on and then my cruise control would only work when it wanted to...

Hey Guys,
I have the same problem with the ABS light staying on but my cruise control still works. Any suggestions?

It probably means you need to get the ABS codes read to figure out what is wrong. Some independent tire shops can read the ABS codes and you can buy a scanner (most OBDII readers can not read ABS codes) to check the ABS codes.

Since cruise works it probably means the brake master switch is ok.

Just my two cents worth.

Opinion worth what you paid.

Thanks Miker104. I'll go to the breakshop and have them connect their scanner to my x and see whats the real problem. Thanks Again.
Juan

did that fix the problem,Where is the switch located

Fixed, I'm actually embarassed

I've had the intermitant cruise problem ABS occasionally and so on. I've tried everything, switches, recall harness, fluid level, checked servo, and the list goes on..... Took the Sploder in for an oil change and got the super inspection, you know the one where they want to fix everything including things that don't need fixed or changed. Tech comes to the waiting room, with a list of things that amounted to more than she would sell for in this market. All this from wipers to rear axle seals. My response, I came in for an oil change, not an overhaul. He says OK, but you really need new brakes bad, I'd be scared to drive it home they are so bad. After convincing him I was a dare devil he assured me he was right about the brakes and I should get that fixed ASAP. So I pay up head home and get out the jack and pull a wheel....Dang he wasn't kidding, so I gather new pads and rotors and start into it, cake job. Couple hours later done. Low and behold cruise now works flawlessly, and everytime it's applied. Turns out excessive brake wear will prevent cruise from working. As bad as the brakes were, this didn't happen overnight. I'd say about the same amount of time, I had wear that I should have caught a couple three years ago. We have four vehicles, and only two drivers, so this was not driven by me often enough to notice, the real problem....BRAKES AND ROTORS !!!!!!! She's fixed now though. Hope this helps Randy"pear"Bauman

Thanks!!!

I just wanted to thank all who recommended the replacement of the Cruise Control Switch (#3L3Z-9F924-AB).

The cruise control on my 2003 Explorer XLT would only sometimes work after having driven it for around an hour. The ABS light was always on too.

I was about to make an appointment with the dealer when I thought to do some research online. That is when I found this forum thread.

I took a gamble and bought the Cruise Control Switch on E-bay for $32. I was able to replace the switch in less than a minute with an adjustable wrench.

The cruise control now comes on immediately and there is no more ABS light.

Thanks much all!!

Denis

So glad I came across this! I was searching for brake pad suggestions and boom! there it was. Always when you're not looking for something that you find it. haha.

Fixed It Myself

I had the same problem with my 03 Explorer, the cruise control light would just flash on then back off and not engauge. My local dealership had the part in stock, new price was $29.64. They quoted me $50 over the phone and gave me a discount when I arrived. The part was also available from AutoZone with the same part number for $35 I think. While I was at the dealership an AutoZone delivery guy came in to pick up parts for resale at their store. Moral of the story is but direct at the dealership. The switch was easy to change out myself and has been working great. I should have done this 6 months ago.

Thanks all for the info but my cruse control works and breaks are new. Still got ABS light on.

Hi all, I found this site, and thank you all so much for sharing the info. I have a 2004 Mountaineer V6 AWD flexfuel, and I am having the similar problem. My ABS light comes on and off, and my cruise control works if it wants to. Sounds like a very similar problem, but I am wondering if the Ford Switch 3L3Z9F924AB part will work for my mounty or not. I would love to just change a simple part than letting my dealer to charge me an arm and a leg!

Thanks again!

Thanks for all of the great input everybody. Had the ol abs light come on and knew it couldn't be the front hubs because I recently replaced them. Started looking through this forum for any other solution. Then saw this one with the cruise issue also and remembered mine isn't working either. Never would have known about this switch. I ordered one from rock auto online for $22.79 then a couple bucks for shipping depending where you live. Hope this clears both issues for me. The part I ordered was motorcraft SW6349 which is also the same as 3L3Z9F924AB.

Well got the MC switch in today and installed it. Solved my cruise control problem but still got the ABS light. Figures!

So I got pissed off over the weekend with the cruise dying and ABS Light coming on. Went into the Ford Dealer after dealing with this for months and very politely said, "It's on again, Cruise is acting up, here are the keys I don't want it back untill it's fixed." Later that afternoon dealer calls and tells me he thinks he's got it.
Apparently there's a backup switch on the master cylinder for the brake lights. The light was on again and they jumpered the switch and it went off. Parts are ordered and they will be in tommorrow. I'll get more details tommorrow. Wife took the Expo to work today due to a crapload of snow.

ford had recall on this. on e vans we had two vans, got the part replced for free.

Ok, took it to the parts store to get the ABS light coded or checked for being on. I got a code for the pressure transducer and the left and right sensors. I replaced both hub assemblys within the past year so not sure they are out. Any ideas on testing or replacing the pressure transducer in the ABS system. Thanks

2005 Explorer

I have been following this thread to try and solve my cruise control issue.
Problem: Cruise control does not work at all. No light, nothing, ever.
Here is what I have done so far:
1. Attempt to locate a fuse for the CC. Nowhere in the manual can I find a location for a fuse for the cruise control.
2. Made the assumption (I know, bad move) that it was switch 9F924. Bought the switch from local dealer.
3. Went to install the switch, and what I thought was the switch (on the bottom of the master cylinder) did not have a matching plug.
4. Went back to this thread and thought maybe a missed something. Then I noticed that someone had posted pictures of TWO possible locations. I checked the other location (with stability control) and did not find a switch there either.

I am now at a loss on what to do next, other than take it to the dealership for repair, which I DO NOT want to do if I can avoid it.

Also worth noting, I have NEVER had an issue with the ABS light coming on.

UPDATE:
I did find the switch inside above the brake pedal. I removed it and tested with a multimeter and there is no change as it is depressed. Pretty sure this is the problem.

Anybody have an idea on what I should do next?

Thanks,
Mike

Welcome aboard!! :salute:

Are you talking about the switch for the brake lights? I know that if the brake lights stay on due to a faulty brake light switch, the cruise control will not work.

When my brake lights stayed on, I removed the switch, sanded down the contacts (due to buildup from arcing), and lubed the plunger. It has been working great ever since.

Check out this thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=263098

The whole thing is a great read. My experience starts at post #20 and there are good pics by azdevildog0311.

According to my '02 shop manual wiring diagrams, Fuse #40 in the power distribution box under the hood is for the cruise control. It is a 15A mini fuse. Your '05 may be different.

Good luck. :D:thumbsup:

Cruise Issues Continue

Rondo,
I have now replaced the crusie control shutoff switch located above the brake pedal under the dash. That did not produce any difference, the CC still does not come on at all.
I also checked fuse #40 and it is fine, as well as every other fuse in the panel under the hood.
I checked all 10amp fuses in the panel under the dash as well; none were blown.

I am still at a complete loss on what to do next, and I will NOT take it to the stealership for repair.

The hunt continues.

Thanks for your welcome and help.

Mike

Mike, I will post a link to the pin point diagnostic tests for the cruise control for the '02 when I get home. I know you have an '05 but it might be some help.
