Are there any differences between the Sports rear axle and the Explorer Rear axle? I don't own a sport or know of anyone who does, but I would guess no difference at all. A fellow wheeler (J**p) has access to a Sport (yr unkown) rear axle and wanted to know if its the EXACT 8.8 axle as under the Explorers.

Yup all the same

thanks! i figured there were no difference

also, keep in mind the 95+ will be disc brakes and the 91-94's are drums.

rahjah dat!!

What about the spline count? Sport tracs and Explorers all have 31 splines?

I don't think the Sports have the factory traction bars on them, but mechanically they're identical.

They're all 31 spline, the difference is the leaf springs, the sports only have 1 leaf, and the 4 doors have a full pack, but that shouldn't affect him.

Depends on what year Sport. My '03 has a full 4 leaf pack. Maybe all 3rd Gen Sports do? I know at least the majority of the 2nd Gens have a mono pack. Someone mentioned in another thread some Sports have a 3 leaf pack.

The only springs that would be different should be the ARC springs.
