rear end noise on 2002 explorer

ever since i bought my 2002 explorer, it's had this loud ass whining/roaring noise from rear end. can anyone tell me something about this. seems like a common problem with this truck

It is a common problem. Check the wheel bearings. If they are fine then the noise is coming from the gears in the rear end. Do a search on here and you will see many others with the same problem.
