1997 Explorer XLT SOHC
First of all, thanks to all active members that make the forum one of the best on the net.

Secondly, my question. I have a 1997 SOHC XLT 4dr 4x4 Explorer. It has a rear end code of "45". As far as i know, it never had a tow pack. I have access to cheap salvage parts. I decoded the rear end code of "45" as being a non-limited slip 3.55. Is there a 3.55 Limited slip rear end i could swap in? Possibly the "R5" code from the Ranger? Also, I'd like stiffer springs. How do I know what I have and what do I ultimately want for a stiffer ride in the rear and more support for trailers. Thanks ahead of time,

Neil

dont get a ranger rear end, they are weaker.

Get an F150 leaf pack to give you stiffer and stronger rear suspension. You can mess around with different leaf combinations too until you find what you want.

I went to a local spring shop and for $300 they installed new leaf packs plus and add-a-leaf. I really like the ride when loaded and add height makes it look good
