Rear gate doesnt lock - Able to open without key and alarm on.

Just curious if anyone knows why the rear gate in my 96 doesnt stay locked. It goes down then back up with my key fob. I can open it with all 4 doors locked then the alarm goes off. Hoping to fix it before next trip fishing.

go inside of read door from inside of vehicle, look down and pull up. had to do that last year to start opening a rusted rear latch on one, has to replace whole door so rusted, popular on these vehicle, thing is I have factory spoiler on mine and mine is not rusted....
