the rod end is snaked into the latch is there a simple procedure to get it out without taking the door apart?

You have to take the Latch mech off of the door, and maneuver to get the rod out, and back on. It stinks to do, but it is the only way, The reason I know, is because of experience, also don't bend the rods, you will thanks me later.
