Sorry not exactly an Explorer question but does pertain to a Ford.

Let's say I need to remove the rear view mirror from my Explorer but it's actually on my a 68 Fairlane.

I had a new windshield installed in this car a few years back but the guy glued the original rear view mirror back on. I should have bought a new mirror while I was at it but didn't think about it. DUH.

Some of the reflective mirror has flaked off and the mount won't stay put even with two fuel line hose clamps around it.

So I find this nice universal mirror at Advance Auto. But the mount is difference.

So I'm trying to figure out how to remove the old mirror without pulling a chunk of the glass with it.

I tried spraying some acetone around the mount thinking this might loosen the glue. Then I tried a razor blade. But it still won't come off.

What's the best method for removing this thing. My next option is to take the car to an autoglass shop and see if they have any ideas.
