I have a 2000 4x4 explorer. There is a whine like noise coming from the rearend that goes along with the speed you are traveling. It gets louder as you go faster and as you slow down it gets quieter. I have read another thread about a rear end noise and it sounds like it could be any bearing in the rearend. I was also wondering how much a repair on the rearend might cost. The noise hasn't been going on for more than a few days and we have parked it until we can look in to it. Thanks for any help you might have.

A rearend rebuild is gonna run ya about $500 probably......sorry. I had a bearing go bad in mine, then 15K later, it started whining again.

Have you checked the fluid level in the rear differential??

I recently changed the pinion seel and put the right amount of fluid back in. The oil level prior to replacing the leaky seel wasn't too low. I was also wondering what did your rearend rebuild include?

Thanks
Jeff
