1996 ford explorer xlt
Hi, I’m Brayden. My first car was a 1996 Ford Explorer. I’ve been working on getting it to where I want it right now I’m tackling the interior. I have my headliner all pulled out, but it’s very brittle. I managed not to crack the pieces, but it’s almost like a cardboard texture. I don’t think the black suede trying to put on would look very good. It’s very rough and uneven. So my plan of action is to get some resin paint it over all of the cardboard/fiberglass material. Once that hardens, I’ll apply short strand fiberglass Bondo to the low spots Sand it all down, so it’s smooth and then apply a new sheet of fiberglass and resin. I was just wondering if anybody has a different way of going about this i’ll attached pictures of what I’m working with

I haven't seen anyone restore their headliner before. It sounds like your plan will work as long as it can be reinstalled once it's made stiff with the resin.

Starts at post 263, he used resin to reinforce the board, the finished product is beautiful.

Roll on bed liner over fabric is hard as you need, if that creates any rhoughts
Could I still glue the fabric over without seeing that weird texture

The texture is from how it is applied. If you brush it on, or use a super smooth paint roller it will be a smooth finish. An airgun at 80 psi gives the popcorn finish.

Thanks I think I’ll get a gallon and try brushing it on I’ll update tomorrow

I painted a Freightliner truck with Raptor Liner cause I wanted a cheap, good looking painted job. Using it for a headliner board repair is a good idea. Buy disposable brushes, cause it will be easier to throw away than clean. Also measure how much you use per coat, so you don't waste a bunch, once you mix the hardner, you're committed to using it.

That looks like it will work well after a few coats
