This may sound too simple issue but I still need some advice. I bought 01 mSport few days ago and can't remove the spare. The jack handle keeps turning but the spare would not come down. Is there a trick ?

I found mine to be tricky the first couple of times I tried to get in the right spot to lower it.

Step one:

Get a hammer. Preferably a large one

Step two:

Smack the center of the tire repeatedly yelling curse words until it comes out.:hammer:

Hope that helps :thumbsup::D

I have not seen these locks on a Sport Trac ........ yet........ but there are lots of them on F150's. See if you can get to where you can see the slot the handle goes into. They'll pop out but it's a PITA.

I tried with to see it using a fleshlight but did not see the slot. I could see the cable from underneath. I have a feeling that something is broken because the rod turns both ways. I was expecting to lower the spare when turned counter clockwise. My next step is to expose the mounting arrangement underneath the carper and remove the assembly. I could not find the details in my Service Manual unless it is hidden somewhere.Any thought?

This is what it looks like:

Thanks for the excellent picture. It seems to me I won't be able to remove it from the top -without a mjor work- since bolts are from the bottom and I have not looked for the access. Am I stuck ??

That photo is of a Sport Trac but according to my MOTORS crash manual it appears to be the same for the Sport.

You are using the correct end section of the handle aren't you?

I repaired the end of the too and then I was able to engage it to the cable unit and removed the spare tire. Thanks for the help. I also removed the unit, lubricated it. it works great.

That's what we're all here for ......... and to B-S. !!!:D
