I have a 1997 Explorer that makes the clunking noises when i hit bumps. I searched around on here and i believe that it is the sway bar making all the noise. I have recently replaced my ball joints and tie rod ends. What i was wondering is if i remove the front sway bar, will there being any negative effects on the vehicle besides worse handling? Thank you.

Its is probably the sway bar end links making the noise. They are around $18 a side. It replaces the stock bushings with poly ones and it will feel and handle better.

I would advise against taking off the sway bar, it makes the vehicle far more tippy when cornering. I have mine off and really want to put it back on very soon.

sway bar

Would that be one way to check and make sure that it is the bushings making the noise? Figure i will have to take it off to replace the bushings anyways.
