If you are talking about the headliner, it is removed forward. Remove the windshield, drop the headliner and it can be pulled out in one piece with a bit of work. Not that easy, always best to fix it in place.

Don't give up yet. get back there and measure things to see if the rear hatch opening is large enough. Remember, you can tilt the headliner and it will even flex a little bit (be careful!). I would be surprised if you couldn't get it out this way. It's not bad on a 3rd gen. How different could they be?
