i replaced heads and 1 lifter and when i started it back up it was making a rod knocking noise somebody told me i should have soaked the new lifter in oil before installing it is that true?

and also if it is the lifter making that noise if i let it run for a lil bit will it go away

A new lifter should be submerged in oil and then pumped manually to force oil down into it. Now that it's in it should pump up within a few minutes of running but it's going to have wear from running dry.

Also, while many of us (including me) have replaced one lifter or 2-3,
it's normally recommended that all lifters be replaced at the same time, and that the cam be replaced with them.

k i will let it run and see if that will help and i was goin to do cam and all lifters but im puting a 302 in it soon and didnt want to spend money on all of that thanks for the info
