Replacement for Trac-lock?

Sounds like you are talking about GM's Gov-Lok. They actually aren't that new. I don't recall what year vehicles I first encountered them on, but I would guess they have been around at least 15 years or more. It is a really neat idea as it acts like an open carrier until one wheel spins then the other will lock in. It's too bad they break so easily. I don't know how many broken ones I have seen over the years. Someone I used to know exploded one accidently just by driving in sort of a figure 8 pattern in a parking lot. He parked the truck after doing multiple turns in a parking lot. A few seconds after he parked he heard a load boom which turned out to be the Gov-Lok exploding. It blew parts right through the axle cover.

The info-mercial with Howie Long has been on a lot lately, that's where I heard of that carrier.

I already have 3.73s, but thanks. I went ahead and got the Yukons from the guy on Pirate. Thanks everyone for your help.

...you are still set for friday...i have to work that day but my buddy is expecting you...and you have my number...:D

and get the detroit. it's one of those "buy it once" items. it will probably outlast your truck.

Thanks again everybody for your help and suggestions. I already have purchased both a limited slip and gears, i ended up with a zexel torsen diff and yukon 4.10 gears, but i appreciate the input.

Tbars, should i get there at 9 or 10?

Ok everyone, just one more question. So now i have everything installed finally, and it all seems to be working just fine. I was reading another thread on limited slips and it triggered a thought that i almost forgot about. The mechanic i went to told me i needed friction additive, and i thought that i did NOT since the torsen diff does not use clutches. But he insisted on it so i am presuming that when he did the work he did add some. So with no clutches in the LS, do i need friction additive/modifier? And if not, will having some in there do any damage or diminish the performance that i would see if it wasn't in there?

I would call Randy's Ring and Pinion, Rieder Racing, or Zexel Torsen themselves before I add any friction modifier. IIRC, the torsen specifically says NOT to use any friction modifier in theirs.

Can Torsen recommend an oil for my rear axle? Top of the Page

We suggest that you follow what is listed in your vehicle's owners manual. We do require that a GL4/GL5 class oil be used for the Torsen T-1. The T-1 requires an oil with extreme pressure additives for optimal function. Torsen works well in either synthetic or mineral base oils!

No need for friction modifiers. Run the gear lube weight they recommend for the ring gear and call it a day.

Ditto, I have no additive with my Zexel Torsen diff. I just bought Amsoil fluids, I'll put 75-90W in front, and 75-110W in the rear. Their fluids are worth the money, and add power while saving gas. Regards,
